The Birth of a New Relationship
Nearly a year ago I got the opportunity to photograph life, a.k.a. birth. That’s right, I walked into an operation room with actually anesthesiologists, a beautiful pregnant mother, and a very calm on the outside-and-nervous on-the-inside about to be a brand new dad. To say the least I was also a bit nervous, but can you blame me? I got to be one of the first people this divine newborn got to see! On top of that, I was nervous about how to capture this moment and make sure I didn’t miss this, but let’s be real… this little girl has the power to make the world stop and look at her. Here’s what I mean, and I will try to not get so sentimental that we both cry, don’t blame me if it happens ;)
Now imagine a young 22 year old getting asked to photograph birth yet never experiencing it before. Now imagine that same girl literally so shocked and emotional about literally LIFE happening her eyes are watering as the camera shutters. Got it pictured? Good because that was me; an emotional wreck with a duty. And let’s be real, we were all emotional.
TIME CHANGE:
As the months went by, this princess started to grow into beautiful smiles and giggles. But don’t get me started with her amazing abilities to smile at the camera on cue when you said “Foto, Foto, Foto”.
She’s freaking adorable right?
Yes. Your answer is 100%, yes.
TIME CHANGE:
It’s still crazy to me, yet alone to these parents that this little princess is already a year old; tomorrow she’ll be two, and a week from now; ten. Because clearly time keeps moving fast with how much this joyous human has grown. Not only are her smiles getting fuller, but her sass, curiosity, and laughs are getting richer. I could only imagine what it must feel like to witness and guide a child through life and Julio and Maddie (mom & dad) make it look easy.
As a photographer being able to capture the growth of a human being is not only an amazing story to witness, but it’s also an honor. I am truly overjoyed and humbly over sharing these experiences. Because without these I wouldn’t get to fully comprehend what it means to be a woman, to be a parent, to be innocent, and to reflect on the definition of love and family.
So as a last little note to my parents and their blessing of a child, Zöe; I want to say once again, thank you for trusting me. Thank you for allowing me into your hearts, home, and memories. Thank you for choosing me as your photographer, I wouldn’t have gotten to meet your undeniable love, passion, and treasured baby girl that’s sure to shift the world and save us all. I hope these photographs act as memories to remind you all of this continued love, support, and joyous new year for this goddess.
